Comparison & Conclusion

Comparison

Ed Sheeran and Frank Sinatra both represent and exemplifies the changes of Pop music through the years. Time goes and all that can evolve does, but in our research we found that pop music, despite the artists, is similar while trying to talk about love in its songs.

Analyzing “Thinking Out Loud” and “Strangers in The Night” we found people participating in conversations, doing promises and remembering memories of a love which belongs to them. They were using certain kind of words to describe what they felt and feel, their concerns and desires, and most important, their futures.

Our research was conducted to find the different ways Nominal Groups give meaning to the songs. Our findings were:

In the songs, the nominal group most used was the simple. Where the majority were pronouns which show us the people involve in the conversations and events presented in the songs. This helps the listener to imagine the interaction of the individuals concerned by understanding their presentations are important to the development of what is said.

The definite articles, by the fact they were the most used in premodification, were crucial for the comprehension of the song because they pointed out the specific elements treated in the composition. All the writer wanted to say was related to that specific physical or metaphorical material that got all his description, do or receive the action.

As both of the songs set love as a main character, it is common to see describers that expresses feelings related to how love can be realized, apelatives which are used to soft the way a person is called or complete Nominal Groups that present us how people perceive thing when they are love.

Finally, the absence of classifiers were evident in each song as well as finite clauses as postmodification. Instead of those, we found postmodification realized by adverbs and adjuncts, which can be another topic of study.

As researches, we hope our analysis brings a lot of questions to your minds and that motivate you to listen more of Sinatra’s and Sheeran’s songs. As well as music, we expect you can be aware of the presence of the Nominal Group in different fields and its importance for the understanding of the meaning of the phenomena, events and activities we do in our daily lives.
